  9. INTRODUCTION

  12.          This program was created out of a necessity to have all
  13.     of my corporate business contacts "at my fingertips".  Since
  14.     I spend a great deal of time at my computer, it seemed logical
  15.     to put this program together.  After trying some of the other
  16.     "black book" and "rolodex"-type programs, I felt that this
  17.     format was the easiest to work with.

  19.          If you find this program useful, I would appreciate a
  20.     note, telling me a little about your business and what you
  21.     like most, and least, about this program.  If you find that
  22.     I have left something out, then definitely let me know and
  23.     we'll update the program!

  25.          In general, the program is VERY simple to use and prompts
  26.     you every step of the way for the information needed for each
  27.     record.

  30. RUNNING EDM
  31. ═══════════

  33.          As I stated above, EDM is a pretty simple program to use
  34.     but, there are a few things that you should know about it.  To
  35.     start the program, type either RUNME or EDM.
  36.  
  37.          First of all, you can search by last name or company name
  38.     and, if a match is not found, it will allow you to search all
  39.     records starting with the first letter of the name you entered.
  40.  
  41.          Secondly, follow the format shown on the screen for each
  42.     field in the record.  If, for example, you are working on a date
  43.     field, then enter the information as MM/DD/YY.  Phone numbers do
  44.     NOT take parenthesis around the area code and putting them in
  45.     will only result in a loopback to that field to enter the infor-
  46.     mation again.

  48.          Thirdly, the Flagged Records Report shows today's flagged
  49.     records in red and all other future date flagged records (up to
  50.     three days beyond the current date) in blue.  Note that when
  51.     the Flagged Records Report is printed, today's flagged records
  52.     appear with an asterisk (*) before the listing, all other
  53.     flagged records are printed normally.

  55.          This version of the program supports up to seven hundred and
  56.     fifty (750) records.  If there seems to be a call for more than
  57.     that, then we will consider including that in subsequent versions.

  59.          Printing of records is one of the many additions to the
  60.     program (over previous versions).  When viewing any record,
  61.     you may choose to Edit or Print that particular record.
  62.  
  63.          If you choose to Edit the record, you will be prompted if
  64.     you want to edit the record or the record log file.  The record
  65.     log file is a new feature in Version 1.7.  It allows you to
  66.     enter two lines of text concerning any contact you have made
  67.     with the person/corporation in that record.  Each entry is
  68.     date/time stamped for accuracy.

  70.          When printing a record, all of the information (ie., phone
  71.     numbers, address, etc) will be printed and then any record log
  72.     file entries will be printed.

  74.          One further caution on this program's use.  The program
  75.     is written in Micro-Soft's QuickBASIC 4.5 and as such, has
  76.     certain restrictions on string character formats.  Entering
  77.     commas (,) or quotation marks (") on any line will cause an
  78.     error in the program.  Entering a comma will cause an immediate
  79.     "Redo from start" error, while entering quotation marks will
  80.     cause an "Input past end of file" error later during the program.
  81.     Please refrain from using commas and quotation marks in your
  82.     entries.

  88.              For those techo-junkies out there that just have to know,
  89.         this program, as stated above, was written entirely in MicroSoft
  90.         QuickBASIC 4.5 and is compiled as a "stand-alone" program.
